Oracle Database Maintenance (Friday, September 20, 2024 – Saturday, September 21, 2024)

Overview

ITS will apply a critical Oracle patch to the PROD database beginning on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 5 p.m. through Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 5 p.m. These critical security updates ensure our data remains protected. During the patch process, there will be a brief interruption to all services that connect to the Oracle databases. 

 

Benefit: Upgrading the Oracle PROD will ensure our databases remain secure. 

 

What Can You Expect

The following applications and services will not be available during upgrading:

  • Class Schedule
  • Data refresh for HR_INTERFACE object
  • Data refresh for OneCard
  • Data refresh for some OnBase MVs

Introduce campus to Microsoft Copilot with Commercial Data Protection, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot and image generator.

Strategic Alignment
The implementation of Microsoft Copilot supports SF State’s commitment to adopting innovative
technologies that drive efficiency and effectiveness. Copilot’s ability to provide context-aware assistance
will allow staff to focus on more strategic and value-added activities, ultimately contributing to improved
productivity and job satisfaction. Given that SF State is already equipped with this feature under the
current agreement, deploying Copilot represents not only a cost-effective solution but also an
enhancement of the campus’ technological capabilities. This strategic investment will not only streamline
workflows but also reinforce SF State’s position as a forward-thinking institution dedicated to leveraging
cutting-edge tools for better operational outcomes.

Monthly Windows Update (Saturday, September 14, 2024, 6 p.m.-midnight)

Overview

ITS will apply monthly Windows security and critical updates on Windows servers on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 6 p.m. to midnight. The latest Windows security patches fix vulnerabilities and errors in Windows and associated software. Security and critical updates reduce the risk of exploitation by malware or hackers. 

 

What Can You Expect

During the maintenance window, users may experience a brief loss of service while each server reboots. During the maintenance window, each server will be unavailable for less than 10 minutes.

ITS will apply a critical Oracle patch to the OIMPRD and IRDMPRD databases. These critical security updates ensure our data remains protected. The maintenance will run from Friday, September 13, at 5 p.m. through Saturday, September 14, at 5 p.m. During the patch process, there will be a brief interruption to all services that connect to the Oracle databases. 

 

Benefit: Upgrading the Oracle PROD will ensure our databases remain secure.

Campus Solutions (CS) 9.2 Production Downtime (September 13, 2024, 8 p.m. - midnight)

Overview

The Chancellor's Office (CO) has scheduled a downtime maintenance window for the campus PeopleSoft platform Campus Solutions (CS) 9.2. The downtime will occur Friday, September 13, from 8:00 p.m. to midnight while the CO works to apply a maintenance pack upgrade.

 

Benefit:

This updated patch includes the following items:

  • 2023-2024 Annual Financial Aid Database (FADB) Updates
  • 2025-2026 Annual Cal State Apply Maintenance 
  • 2024-2025 Financial Aid REGS 3 FISAP Reporting
  • 2024-2025 Middle Class Scholarship (MCS) Enrollment Reporting Updates
  • Update to the California Promise Qualifications process to look at Cal State Apply data for qualification criterion

Monthly Linux Servers Update (Saturday, September 7, 2024)

Overview

On Saturday, September 7, from 4 to 10 p.m., ITS will apply monthly security and critical OS updates on the Linux servers.

Overview

ServiceNow has been fully restored and is now operational. The intermittent issues affecting the Service Portal and the Service Agent Portal have been resolved.

Overview

ITS has been informed that ServiceNow is experiencing intermittent issues globally. At this time, you will not be able to sign into the Service Portal or the Service Agent Portal. We are actively contacting our ServiceNow technical representatives for more information on the outage and to expedite a resolution.

RESOLVED- Heating Event in Data Center Affecting Multiple Services (August 26, 2024)

Overview

All production servers and campus applications/infrastructure services are currently operational. Our colleagues in Facilities Services have made progress in bringing back the new cooling system online and continue monitoring the temperature in the data center.

UPDATE: Heating Event in Data Center Affecting Multiple Services (August 26, 2024)

Overview

ITS’s monitoring systems detected elevated temperatures in the data center this morning around 8 a.m., impacting several technology services, including Gateway, campus networks, WiFi, One Card, and Transact Gator dollars. While some systems have been restored, others are still experiencing issues. The heating event in the data center continues. Facilities Services is working with the vendors and taking mitigation steps to lower the temperature in the data center while ITS attempts to bring technology services back up as quickly as possible.

While some services have been restored, users may still experience disruptions or slow performance with technology services as we address ongoing issues. We will provide regular updates as we work to resolve these problems and restore full functionality.
