Heating Event in Data Center Affecting Multiple Services (August 26, 2024)

Overview

ITS’s monitoring systems detected elevated temperatures in the data center. The increased heat stresses our hardware and potentially leads to performance degradation or outages for various services, such as Gateway, campus networks, WiFi, and Transact Gator dollars. ITS, Facilities, and the vendor are working to cool the data center to resolve the issue.

 

 

What Can You Expect

As we work to resolve these issues, users may experience disruptions or slow performance when accessing network resources through our Gateway. There could also be intermittent connectivity issues or reduced performance for users relying on our WiFi network. We will provide regular updates as we work to resolve this issue.

Monthly Windows Update (Saturday, August 17, 2024, 6 p.m.-midnight)

Overview

ITS will apply monthly Windows security and critical updates on Windows servers on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 6 p.m. to midnight. The latest Windows security patches fix vulnerabilities and errors in Windows and associated software. Security and critical updates reduce the risk of exploitation by malware or hackers. 

 

What Can You Expect

During the maintenance window, users may experience a brief loss of service while each server reboots. During the maintenance window, each server will be unavailable for less than 10 minutes.

Global Protect Virtual Private Network (VPN) Upgrade (August 15, 2024)

Overview

The current version of Global Protect, the University’s VPN software, is nearing the end of life and support. The ITS Network team will upgrade the VPN server to the latest version, as recommended by the vendor.

 

Benefit: The new version of Global Protect offers enhanced authentication and security features.

 

What Can You Expect

When connecting to the VPN, your software will prompt you to install the new version. During the installation process, you may experience a temporary disconnection.

Www.sfsu.edu Will Be Taken Down for Maintenance (August 9, 2024, 9:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.)

Overview

The main www.sfsu.edu website will be taken down for up to an hour Friday, August 9th in order to perform planned maintenance.

Benefit: This will improve website security and resiliency.

 

What Can You Expect

The main campus website will unavailable from 9pm to 10pm. All other campus websites will be available.

Campus Solutions (CS) Production Downtime (August 7, 2024, 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)

Overview

The Chancellor's Office has scheduled an emergency downtime maintenance window for the campus PeopleSoft platform Campus Solutions (CS). The downtime will occur today, Wednesday, August 7, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. while they work on a patching fix to resolve the payment issue on the mobile app.

 

Benefit: This patch will resolve users' ability to make a payment via mobile device.

 

What Can You Expect

Campus Solutions (CS) will not be available during the maintenance window. Affected applications include:

 

•              Accept Admission Offer

•              CPaGE Quick Admit

•              Gator Scheduler

Beginning Friday, July 26th, the ITS Service Desk in Library 360E is now open for walk-in assistance!

On Saturday, August 3, from 4 to 10 p.m., ITS will apply monthly security and critical OS updates on the Linux servers.

 

Benefit: The latest security updates and bug fixes will improve the security and reliability of the Linux servers and associated services.
