Monthly Windows Update (Saturday, March 15, 2025, 6 p.m.-midnight)

Overview

ITS will apply monthly Windows security and critical updates on Windows servers on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 6 p.m. to midnight. The latest Windows security patches fix vulnerabilities and errors in Windows and associated software, reducing the risk of exploitation by malware or hackers. 

 

What Can You Expect

During the maintenance window, users may experience a brief loss of service while each server reboots. Each server will be unavailable for less than 10 minutes during the maintenance window.

Scheduled Maintenance: SFSU Web Application Server (March 18, 2025, 10 p.m.)

Overview

The San Francisco State University (SFSU) Web Application server will undergo scheduled maintenance on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 10:00 p.m. to 10:20 p.m.

Launch OpenAI ChatGPT EDU to active faculty, staff and students as part of a California State University (CSU) systemwide initiative that runs through July 2026.
Component

Overview 

Academic Technology (AT) and Information Technology Services (ITS) will roll out OpenAI ChatGPT EDU to university faculty, staff and students as part of a California State University (CSU) systemwide initiative. 

OpenAI ChatGPT EDU is an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot technology that can process natural human language and generate a response. This premium version of ChatGPT is built for universities to responsibly deploy AI to active students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Through the CSU licensing agreement, it will include enterprise-level security and data protection not provided to those with individual or commercially available licenses. 

The project will make the OpenAI ChatGPT EDU platform available to SF State users through a collaborative effort between Academic Technology (AT) and Information Technology Services (ITS). The initiative will begin under an existing 18-month contract with OpenAI that started in 2025 and runs through July 2026. This project will focus on the technical enablement, provisioning, and set-up necessary for the successful deployment and use of ChatGPT EDU on the campus. The goal is to make ChatGPT EDU accessible to faculty, staff and students during the contract period enabling usage alongside a broader campus AI program.

Oracle Database Maintenance (Friday, March 7, 2025 – Saturday, March 8, 2025)

Overview

ITS will apply a critical Oracle patch on the OIMPRD and IRDMPRD databases from Friday, March 7, 2025, at 5 p.m. until Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 5 p.m. These critical security updates ensure our data remains protected. During the patch process, all services connecting to the Oracle databases will be interrupted.

 

Benefit: Upgrading the Oracle OIMPRD and IRDMPRD databases will ensure our databases remain secure. 

 

What Can You Expect

The following applications and services will not be available during upgrading: 

  • Budget AO - Executive Dashboard (Tableau Cloud)
  • Division of Student Life (DSL) GatorX DataMart
  • Metro College Data Feed to SalesForce Cloud
  • Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) Data Feed to InfoED Cloud
  • The Oracle Identity Manager (OIM) Provisioning System
  • University Advancement CRM DataMart (BlackBaud Cloud)

Monthly Linux Servers Update (Saturday, March 8, 2025)

Overview

On Saturday, March 8, from 4 to 8 p.m., ITS will apply monthly security and critical OS updates on the Linux servers.

 

Benefit: The latest Linux updates fix security vulnerabilities and improve the stability of services.

Enablement of Box AI for Documents and Notes (Saturday, March 1, 2025)

Overview

ITS will enable Box AI for Box documents and notes for all SF State-managed Box users on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Enabling Box AI for documents and notes allows users to quickly extract key information, summarize content, and gain insights from their documents by asking natural language questions directly within Box.

 

What Can You Expect

New Box AI functionality will be available in Box.com.

OnBase EP3 Retirement (Wednesday, February 26, 2025, 8 p.m.)

Overview

ITS will discontinue the remaining legacy OnBase EP3 servers in production at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26th at 8 p.m.

After the legacy users are shut down, the EP3 Unity Client and EP3 Thick Client will no longer be supported. Users must update to the latest OnBase 24 versions using the OnBase 24 Production servers.

 

Benefit: By updating OnBase, we increase security and functionality, while reducing service and maintenance costs.

 

What Can You Expect

Anyone remaining on the legacy EP3 Unity client and/or EP3 Thick client after the servers are shut down will need to upgrade to the OnBase 24 client. These upgrades are available through your IT Service providers now.

Campus Solutions (CS) 9.2 Downtime (February 28th, 2025, 8 p.m. - midnight)

Overview

The Chancellor's Office has scheduled a downtime maintenance window for the campus PeopleSoft platform Campus Solutions (CS) 9.2. The downtime will occur on Friday, February 28th, from 8:00 p.m. to midnight while the Chancellor's Office works to apply a maintenance pack upgrade.

 

Benefit:

This maintenance will apply updates to the annual 2025-26 Cal ISIR. 

 

What Can You Expect

Campus Solutions (CS) will not be available during the maintenance window. Affected applications include:

- CPaGE Quick Admit

- Gator Scheduler

GlobalProtect Client Software Upgrade (Friday, February 28, 2025)

Overview

ITS will upgrade Palo Alto Network’s GlobalProtect VPN software to the latest version of 6.2.5 on Friday, February 28th from 8 p.m. until 9 p.m.

 

Benefit: This maintenance will ensure our campus remains secure by improving GlobalProtect security features. 

 

What Can You Expect

After the upgrade, users connecting to GlobalProtect will be prompted to download and upgrade to the latest version of GlobalProtect software.
