Security Certificate Update on ad.sfsu.edu Domain Controllers (Friday, March 25, 2022, 8:00 p.m.-midnight)

Overview

On Friday, March 25, 2022, from 8:00 p.m.-midnight, ITS will renew the security certificate for our Domain Controllers which serve the LDAP/LDAPS connections. This change will impact system services that connect to Active Directory via LDAPS. This change has been coordinated with the impacted service owners. The certificate enables encrypted communication between applications and domain controllers.

What Can You Expect

End users or clients should not experience any issues with their connectivity to SF State resources. Application administrators should confirm that their applications which use secure LDAP have a valid certificate chain installed, and be prepared to install the updated certificate if needed.

Border Firewall Network Maintenance (Friday, March 25, 2022, from noon-4:00)

The ITS Network team will perform maintenance on Friday, March 25, 2022, from noon – 4:00 p.m.

What Can You Expect

ITS does not expect any impact to traffic passing through the border firewall. We will be closely monitoring incoming and outgoing traffic to ensure connectivity.

Oracle Database Maintenance - PROD (Friday, March 18, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. - Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.)

Overview

A critical Oracle patch will be applied on the PROD database starting on Friday, March 18, 2022. These critical security updates are being applied to ensure our data remains protected. The maintenance will be from Friday, March 18, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. to Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 5:00 pm. There will be an interruption to all services that connect to the Oracle databases while the patch is being applied.

What Can You Expect

The following applications and services will not be available during patching:

Monthly Windows Update (Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.)

Overview

ITS will apply monthly Windows security updates and critical updates on Windows servers on Saturday, March 12, 2022, from 6:00 p.m.-midnight. The latest Windows security patches fix the vulnerabilities and errors in Windows and associated software. Security and critical updates reduce the risk of exploitation by malware or hackers.

What Can You Expect

During the maintenance window, users may experience a brief loss of service while each server is rebooted. Each server is expected to be unavailable for less than 10 minutes during the maintenance window.

GlobalProtect Main Portal VPN Update (Thursday, March 10, 2022, 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.)

Overview

The ITS Network team will update the main GlobalProtect VPN portal (gp.sfsu.edu) to use the default browser on Thursday, March 10, 2022, from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. Updating to use the default browser is a necessary step in enabling additional security features.

Your GlobalProtect VPN login experience will change after this update.

Qualtrics Email Deliverability Issues (March 1, 2022)

Overview 

ITS is investigating an email issue associated with Qualtrics-generated emails not being delivered to SF State email accounts.

What Can You Expect 

Qualtrics emails being sent to SF State email accounts are not being received by users. Qualtrics emails sent to non-SF State email accounts are not impacted, and continue to operate as expected.
