Update Directory Information

What can you do to ensure your preferred name is correct?

 

 

Staff & Faculty

Please log into your SFSU Gateway/HR Self Service to verify your preferred name is displayed correctly. If a change is required to your preferred name, updates can be made by going to HR Self Service, My Personal Information -> My Name(s) navigation menu.

  1. Log in to the SFSU Gateway - gateway.sfsu.edu

  2. On the left side panel, under the Faculty / Staff section, select Employee Services.

  3. Select the HR Self Service button.
  4. Select the My Personal Information link.
  5. Select the My Names link.
  6. If you have a Preferred name option already, select the Edit option to change your name. If you do not have a preferred name option, select to add a new name.

Students

Please log into your SFSU Gateway/student center to verify your preferred name is displayed correctly. If a change is required to your preferred name, please follow the directions in the link here:

  1. Log in to the SFSU Gateway - gateway.sfsu.edu
  2. On the left side panel, under the Student section, select Academics.
  3. Select Student Center button.
  4. In the Personal Information section, select the Names link.
  5. If you have a Preferred name option already, select the Edit option to change your name. If you do not have a preferred name option, select to add a new name.

Note: Updating your first name, middle name, and/or last name is for display only. It will not update your legal name in the HRMS database. Name information is controlled by what a user has listed for their preferred name in the SFSU Gateway. If you woud like a different name to appear in Directory Name (e.g., a nickname), you must update your name in the SFSU Gateway. This change may take up to 24 hours from the time you make the change in the SFSU Gateway to be reflected in Directory Name. In addition, this change may affect how your name appears in other SFSU services as well.
