Dialing

To place a call, lift handset, then:

  • Outside Calls: Dial "9" followed followed by the desired telephone number.
  • Internal Calls: Dial the desired five (5) digit extension number (e.g., 81420 for number 338.1420). Telephone numbers not directly dialable from outside begin with 1. Dormitory numbers begin with 6.
  • Voice Mail: Dial "86000"
  • Outside Calls with Account Code: Dial "*9", your personal account, followed by "9" and the desired telephone number.
  • Long Distance: Dial 9 + 1 + the 10-digit number
  • International: Dial 9 + 011 + the number
  • Information: Dial 9 + 411 (Note your department will be charged)

Note: Each campus telephone has a permissions setting for making local, long-distance, and international calls. Dialing each type of numbers is dependent on the phone being enabled to make that kind of call. If your telephone is not permitted to make international calls, for example, then you will receive a fast busy signal. You should contact your UTC if you need to have your class of service modified.

 

Transfer

A call may be transferred to an on-campus extension. If the call is not answered, it will ring back to you.

  • Depress flash or tap key Dial the number to which the call will be transferred Hang up when ringing is heard (or stay on the line to introduce the call; the caller being transferred will not hear the introduction)
  • If there is a busy signal, or no answer, depress flash or tap key to be reconnected to the caller.

 

Callback

Automatically connects with a busy extension when it becomes idle. (Calls may be placed and received after setting a CALLBACK.)
To Set:

  • When you hear a busy signal, Press flash or tap key
  • Dial *1
  • Hang up
  • When both extensions becomes idle, your phone rings. Lift handset; the called party's phone rings.

To Cancel:

  • Lift handset
  • Dial #1
  • Hang up

 

Park

To place a call on hold and retrieve it from any other phone on campus. (Once a call is parked, telephone is available for re-use.)

  • To Set: While connected to party, depress flash or tap key Dial *0, Hang up
  • To Retrieve From Another Phone: Dial #0 and the extension with which the call was parked

 

Hold

  • To place a call on hold, depress flash or tap key, *4
  • To retrieve the call, depress flash or tap key

 

Directed Call Pick-up

  • To answer an incoming call directed to another telephone. Lift handset, dial #7 and the ringing extension

 

Call Forward: No Answer 

Use when your line will not be answered after ringing at the telephone instrument.

To establish new Call Forward to Voicemail in a No Answer condition

  • Pick up handset
  • Press  * 2  86000 (for calls to go to voice mail)
  • Hang up handset

To cancel previous No Answer instruction

  • Pick up handset
  • Press  # 2
  • Hang up handset You should hear a tone confirming the action

 

Call Forward: Busy

When your line is busy, calls immediately forward.

To establish new Call Forward to Voicemail when your line is Busy

  • Pick up handset
  • Press  * 5 86000 (for calls to go to voice mail)
  • Hang up handset.  You should hear a confirming tone

To cancel previous Busy instruction

  • Pick up the handset
  • Press  # 5
  • Hang up handset.  You should hear a tone confirming the action

 

Call Forward: All Calls (Do Not Disturb)

Immediately sends callers to voice mail.

To establish a Call Forwarding of All Calls without waiting

  • Pick up handset
  • Press * 3 followed by the number all calls will forward to immediately
    Examples:
         1. forward immediately to Voice Mail press  * 3 86000
         2. forward calls on campus press  * 3  plus a campus extension
         3. forward calls off campus press  * 3 9  plus a complete 10-digit telephone number

To cancel previous instruction for All Calls

  • Pick up handset
  • Press  # 3
  • Hang up handset

 

Three-Party Conference

A three way conference will include you and two other parties. As long as one of the remaining parties is on campus, you may hang up, leaving the other two people connected.

  • Establish connection with first party; announce the conference Depress flash or tap key Dial the number of the second party; announce the conference
  • Depress flash or tap key (all three parties are now connected)
  • If there is a busy signal, no answer, or you misdial, depress the flash or tap key to be reconnected to your original party.
