Office 2016 for Mac using Office 365 Guide

Students enrolled full-time or part-time in a degree-granting program at San Francisco State University (i.e., matriculating students) are eligible for a free copy of Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac using Office 365.

 


Download and Install

  1. Sign in at http://live.sfsu.edu with your SF State credentials
  2. Click on the Gear icon, located near the top-right corner of the window, and select Office 365 settings
  3. In the Software section, click on Install and Manage Software to open the installation page of Office 2016 for Mac
  4. On the installation page, click on the Install button to begin the download
  5. When the download is complete, open the package (Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg) to Run the installer
  6. Follow the prompts to complete the installation. When the installation is complete, Word will open to finalize setup. Click on Get Started.
  7. Click on the Sign In button, then enter your SF State e-mail account and password to activate Office 2016 for Mac
  8. Click on Start Using Word and complete the installation process

 

Deactivate a Device

Office 2016 can be installed on up to 5 devices. If you have reached the maximum number of installs, you can deactivate Office 2016 from a specific device, and install it onto another. To deactivate a device:

    1. Sign in at http://live.sfsu.edu
    2. Click on the Gear icon, located near the top-right corner of the window, and select Office 365 settings
    3. In the Software section, click on Install and Manage Software to open the installation page of Office 2016 for Mac
    4. On the installation page, there will be a list of devices where Office 2016 has been installed. Click on Deactivate that corresponds to the device that should be removed.

Save Documents

By default, Office 2016 for Mac documents will be saved in OneDrive, an online cloud storage system. To save documents onto your device:

    1. Select Save from the file menu
    2. Click on the the Online Locations to the left of the File Format option.Online Locations
      This will change the option to save On My Mac:On My Mac
    3. Type in a name for the file and click Save
