Firefox for Windows Skillsoft Configuration Guide

The configuration changes noted in this document are necessary to run Skillsoft's eLearning programs in Firefox. Before configuring Firefox, verify Java is installed and updated.

 

Faculty and Staff can access the online eLearning courses, books, and videos free of charge at https://ds.calstate.edu/?svc=skillsoft

 

Enable the Java plugin

  1. Open Firefox and select Tools > Add-ons. If you don’t see the Tools menu option, press and release the Alt key
  2. Click on Plugins
  3. Ensure Java(TM) Platform SE 7 (or later) Uxx (xx = current update) is enabled
    • If disabled, the text will be grayed-out; select Ask to Activate from the dropdown menu to enable the Java pluginFirefox Confix Add-on
  4. Close the Add-ons Manager tab

If unable to login to Skillport and launch courseware after completing the steps to enable Java, clear the browser cache using the instructions below.

 

Clear the browser cache

  1. Select Tools > Options. If you don’t see the Tools menu option, press and release the Alt key
  2. Click on the Advanced icon
  3. Click on the Network tab
  4. In the Cached Web Content section, click on Clear Now to clear your web browser’s temporary Internet filesClear Cache Button
  5. Click on the Content icon
  6. Ensure Block pop-up windows is checked
  7. Click on the Exceptions button
  8. In the text box of the Allowed Sites – Pop-ups window, type skillport.com then click the Allow button
  9. Type skillwsa.com then click the Allow buttonAdd Exceptions Dialog Box
  10. After both sites have been added click Close, then click OK in the Options window
  11. Log back into your Skillsoft account to launch the course
    • Select Allow and Remember if asked whether or not to allow Java to run

If unable to login to Skillport and launch courseware after completing the steps to enable Java and clear the browser cache, clear the Java cache using the instructions below.


Clear the Java cache

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
    • Windows 8.0/8.1: Hover your mouse in a right side corner, when the charms bar appears, select Settings > Control Panel
    • Windows 7: Select Start Button > Control Panel
  2. If not already showing, select Small icon view from the View by: drop down menu
  3. Click on the Java control panel (may be labeled “Java (32-bit)); the Java Control Panel will open in a new window
  4. Click on the General tab
  5. In the Temporary Internet Files section, click on Settings
  6. In the Temporary Files window, click on the Delete Files… buttonTemporary Files Settings Dialog box
  7. In the Delete Files and Applications window, verify Trace and Log Files and Cached Applications and Applets are checked, then click on OK to save the changes and close the window

  8. In the Temporary Internet Files window, click on OK to save the changes and close the window
  9. In the Java Control Panel window, click on OK to save the changes and close the window
  10. Close the Control Panel window
